“From Theory to Practice: Teaching Culture in the German Classroom”

In conjunction with the two-day conference “The Meaning of Culture:
German Studies in the 21st Century” from March 28-29, 2008, the
Department of Germanic and Slavic Studies at the University of Georgia
is offering a workshop for Georgia teachers at the pre-collegiate level
on Sunday, March 30th, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
Workshop participants will, ideally, arrive on Saturday morning to
attend the conference. In the evening, they are invited to watch the
film “Sommer vorm Balkon” by Andreas Dresen in Athens’ new venue Ciné.
The screening will be followed by a reception. The next day,
participants will explore aspects of teaching culture effectively in
the German classroom.

There is no fee for the workshop. However, spaces are limited, and we
ask that you register. Attendance of conference sessions on Saturday,
March 29, is desired.
As a workshop attendee, you receive the following:
• free admission to all conference sessions
• free admission to screening of Andreas
Dresen’s Sommer in Berlin at Cinè on Saturday, March 29, 6 p.m. The
film will be introduced by Dresen and be followed by a discussion with
the director
• reception at 9 p.m. following screening and
discussion
• free lodging at the Holiday Inn Athens
• brunch-buffet on Sunday
